The Indian Army has raised the upper age limit for Agniveer recruitment from 21 to 22 years, applicable to recruitment rallies conducted under the 2026-27 cycle, according to an announcement made on 2 September 2026. The lower age limit remains unchanged at 17 years and six months, widening the eligible age band to 17.5 to 22 years for Agniveer categories including General Duty (GD), Technical, Clerk/Store Keeper Technical (SKT) and Tradesman. The Army said the revised criterion is intended to widen the applicant pool, particularly among candidates who complete vocational courses, engineering diplomas or other specialised technical programmes after Class 12, as modern military roles increasingly require personnel skilled in handling advanced weapon systems, drones, communication networks and AI-enabled platforms. This is the first structural change to the age criterion since the upper limit was restored to 21 years following a one-time pandemic-related relaxation to 23 years in 2022. भारतीय सेना ने 2 सितंबर 2026 को घोषणा करते हुए अग्निवीर भर्ती के लिए अधिकतम आयु सीमा 21 वर्ष से बढ़ाकर 22 वर्ष कर दी है, जो 2026-27 चक्र के तहत आयोजित होने वाली भर्ती रैलियों पर लागू होगी। न्यूनतम आयु सीमा 17 वर्ष 6 माह पर अपरिवर्तित रहेगी, जिससे जनरल ड्यूटी (जीडी), टेक्निकल, क्लर्क/स्टोर कीपर टेक्निकल (एसकेटी) व ट्रेड्समैन श्रेणियों के लिए पात्र आयु सीमा 17.5 से 22 वर्ष हो गई है। सेना के अनुसार यह बदलाव उन उम्मीदवारों की संख्या बढ़ाने के लिए किया गया है जो 12वीं के बाद वोकेशनल कोर्स, इंजीनियरिंग डिप्लोमा या अन्य तकनीकी कोर्स पूरा करते हैं, क्योंकि आधुनिक सैन्य भूमिकाओं में उन्नत हथियार प्रणाली, ड्रोन, संचार नेटवर्क व एआई आधारित प्लेटफॉर्म संभालने में दक्ष जवानों की जरूरत बढ़ रही है। 2022 में महामारी के कारण एक बार आयु सीमा 23 वर्ष की गई थी, बाद में इसे 21 वर्ष पर बहाल कर दिया गया था; यह उसके बाद पहला बड़ा बदलाव है। उम्मीदवार आवेदन से पहले rally से जुड़ी सूचना, सटीक तिथियों व पात्रता विवरण के लिए joinindianarmy.nic.in देखें।
